It Is Time To Stop The Hate By Jerry O’Meara

It Is Time To Stop The Hate By Jerry O’Meara

We the people of The United States of America are suffering from a divisiveness never seen in modern times.

Sadly, the United States presents an angry citizenship for the world to view.

Republicans are furious about the direction of our country. Democrats are angry about the upheaval in their leadership and, many loathe Donald Trump. Some college campuses are spewing hatred for a myriad of reasons.

The time has arrived to redirect our country. It is time to stop mean-spirited, vicious attacks on our fellow man. It is time to stop the hate.

Witnessing the attempted assassination of former President Trump brought out many emotions in me.

My emotions spilled forth with this question. What has become of our country?

Within days some said unabashedly that they wished the gunman’s aim had been truer. Where did this hatred come from?

We may never know the motive of the shooter in Butler, PA. Could the daily hatred found on social media have pushed him over the edge?

There are some in the media who spew hatred daily. Their superiors know what they are saying yet do nothing to stop it. They have large audiences who listen to this venom much of which is based on half-truths and lies. Listening to these haters as I will call them is infectious and non-productive.

I decided to have a tee shirt made that said: STOP THE HATE!

Before spending the money and time having the shirt produced I visited Amazon. To my astonishment, I found over two dozen shirts with these words!

Hate comes in so many varieties. Hatred can be like a buffet for those who are easily led, or of shallow and naïve minds. One can choose to hate a politician, a supreme court justice, a transvestite, a person of Asian descent, or a Jewish person. These are just a few of the choices.

As Americans, we have the freedom to hate any race, creed, or color our heart desires.

I implore all Americans to dig deep into their God-given natural goodness as human beings and ask two questions.

  1. How does the hatred of another man make our soul feel?
  2. What does widespread hatred do to the soul of our country?

We can hate an idea, a movement, a company, the weather, ad infinitum. But let us not choose to hate our fellow man simply because he is dissimilar.

As a child, and then an adult, I knew America as a country where people could disagree with one another on issues without attacking the other person’s character, intelligence, or even his right to exist.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is time for our country to begin the healing process. It is time for America to regain the respect, dignity, and kindness toward our fellow men we once enjoyed.

Let it begin with you and me.
